What Do You Need to Know about the Scrappage Scheme 2017?
Scrappage schemes are becoming very popular with big car manufacturers to provide an incentive for customers to buy their vehicles by giving them money off their purchase. It also promotes a greener environment by reducing air pollution. Below, we’ve highlighted some of the latest schemes of this year:
Ford are the latest manufacturer to introduce a scrappage scheme for 2017. As part of their scheme you’ll be able to trade in any petrol or diesel car for scrapping, if it’s older than 2010. In return, you’ll receive up to £2,000 off some new Ford cars. This scheme will expire at the end of December 2017.
BMW named their scheme ‘Lower Emissions Allowance’. If you trade in a diesel vehicle with an emission standard of Euro 4 (EU4) or below, you can claim up to £2,000 off any BMW model with emissions of 130g/km or lower. Again, this scheme is only available until the end of December 2017.
Mercedes’ Diesel Changeover Bonus has the same concept as the BMW scheme. With this one, you’ll receive up to £2,000 off diesel cars with a Euro 6 emission standard, any plug-in hybrid vehicles or smart electric cars. This scheme is also only available until the end of December.
Currently, the government don’t offer a scrappage scheme. However, they will offer a special low-emissions grant if you purchase an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle. The grant can be up to a maximum of £2,500. By combining this with a scrappage scheme, you could earn a lot of money off your next vehicle purchase.
