So, let’s answer some frequently answered questions when it comes to scrapping a van or car.
Why do I need to use an authorised scrapyard?
The answer is simple and that is because the laws on scrapping cars have been tightened up in recent years so you need to use an authorised treatment facility. Here are The Scrappers we have to abide by the law when it comes to recycling parts from your car and then disposing of harmful fluids efficiently and safely.
What happens if I do not use an authorised scrapyard?
It’s important to appreciate that if you don’t use an authorised scrapyard then you run the risk of breaking the law. Only authorised treatment facilities can issue a ‘Certificate of Destruction’ and the facility must be licensed by the Environment Agency. By not using an authorised facility, you can be prosecuted.
Do I have to notify the DVLA that my car is being scrapped?
Here at The Scrappers we not only scrap your vehicle efficiently but also tell the DVLA that you are no longer responsible for it. You’ll need to supply us with your V5c document, or logbook. For cars, we will also issue a Certificate of Destruction.
Where do The Scrappers collect their scrap cars from?
We are able to collect scrap cars and vans from anywhere in the UK and while we are based in Bolton, we have an extensive network of agents so contact us and we should be able to help you.
Will you dispose of my car in an environmentally friendly way?
As mentioned previously, under new rules we are obliged to recycle all necessary parts and then depollute the vehicle. The shell that remains is then crushed so this is an environmentally friendly way to dispose of a scrap car or van.
How much is my scrap car worth?
This is a difficult question to answer since the price for scrap will vary on a regular basis, sometimes every day. The demand for scrap metal does vary but we should be able to make a cash offer for a scrap car or van you will like. We can also pick-up.
